Access: General Brig, Medbay Treatment Room Additional Access: All Medical Difficulty: High Supervisors: Warden, Head of Security Duties: Provide treatment for prisoners and security officers Guides: Guide to Surgery, Space Law Alternate Titles: Jail Doctor, Brig Orderly, Prison Medic, Chief Tickler, Navy Corpsman |
Brig Physician is probably going to be one of the more difficult jobs available on the station due to the scrutiny the role is under. On the one hand, you are in security and are subject to Space Law. On the other hand, you are a doctor. A military doctor mind you, but a doctor first and foremost.
So, you walk into your office. What do we have here.
- Laptop: Medical records laptop. Can't actually do anything about medical problems without having that particular medical solution.
- Locker: Got your usual stuff in there. Garment bag with a suit and skirt, extra gloves, an extra set of secred scrubs. Surgical dufflebag, defib (precharged too!), seclite, analyzer and your medhud.
- Paperwork stuff: there's always bureauocracy.
- Loose supplies. Things like your stethoscope, an extra oh fuck medkit, IV bag and roller, shower to wash with.
- Morgue tray: because sometimes, you just need to throw the body in the freezer so you can work on it in a bit. Folk often forget that freezers preserve bodies so they dont rot.
- Operating table and computer: staples.
Realistically, you have just about everything you need to handle all the basics and such.
- You are a security officer last. Just because you have access to these places doesn't mean that your primary role is such. If you are out and about validhunting without a very good reason, you will eat a job ban. If you're gonna hunt valids, go play a security officer instead.
- You live in the brig. Want something from medical? You have access to the
.m
edical radio channel so you can ask for a paramedic to bring it to you.
- You answer to the Warden first and foremost. Both you and the Warden only have jurisdiction inside the brig itself.
- Prisoners get a booboo rioting? You're treating them. If they're unruly, you have things like straight jackets available both in your office and in other parts of the brig. Make use of them.
- Your PDA has the same lifesaver program that paramedics have. If warranted, you can use it to go find a downed security officer to get them brought back vertical. But you best get back to the brig where ya belong.
- If the HOS or Captain directly deputizes you to join the regular security force, you may at that point start packing heat etc. But you also are still the doctor. Going out of your way to get the thumbs up would look really bad so don't do that.
