Difficulty: Medium Direct superior: The Ten and the Archbishop of Kingsfield Duties: You are the head honcho of Vanderlin's Church and Clergy, you have been entrusted by the Archbishop to bring faith to this land, and ensure the citizenry are following THE TEN Allowed species : Humen, Elf, Half-Elf Minimum PQ requirement : 20 Useful guides: Guide to Speech, Guide to Holy Magic |
"Having risen up through the ranks of the Church, from a lowly acolyte to a Priest you have become the leader of the Church of Vanderlin, you are pious, holy and blessed by your patron, Astrata. Bring faith to the faithless, and cement faith in the faithful."
It is INTEGRAL that you read the guides on all of the Ten before playing Priest, you are expected to have a great understanding of the lore regarding religion, as you are a direct representiative of Astrata.
Priests, just like Monarchs are held to a high standard of roleplay, remember that your announcements can be seen by the ENTIRE SERVER regardless of where they are, please ensure they are legible and get your point across clearly, do not spam them.
You are not a Medieval Priest. You should not be preaching the doctrines of that time period. The Ten are not Sexist, infact sexisim is considered Baothan or Zizoite heresy. Remember our rules, you cannot be homophobic or transphobic and utilise the excuse that you were trying to be historically accurate.
You are the Priest, you are the MAIN MAN who gets to dictate the business of the entire city's faithful population, you are a shepherd to the sheep, protector of the weak.
It is your duty to ensure that the will of the Ten is manifest in all creation, you should be collecting tithes, giving sermons and preaching in the streets to all who are there, even if they do not initially listen.
You are a Priest of the pantheon of the Ten, not Pysdon, nor the Four. You should follow all of their virtues, but Astrata's virtues come first, as it is she who granted you this position.
You have 3 main duties as a Priest, and 3 side duties.
Your side duties are as follows
YOU SHOULD NOT
Revivals are a privilege, not a right. You should not be reviving Joe Beggar no.324 who died to kneestingers unless you are feeling exceptionally grateful. Astrata has granted you the ability to give revives to her chosen, those who should still walk the earth for their faith and grace.
There are 4 main church roles under you, which will be described in depth within their own personal pages. This section will focus on their relationship with you specifically
You will normally have (2) Templars within your Church, however you hold the power to hire more. Generally, their role is twofold: they are to protect You and the Church, think of them as Royal Knights, but also for the Priest. You can permit them to go on hunts for faithless individuals such as the rotten werevolfs and the bloodsuckers of the Vampire Manor in the Forest, however this business is best left to the Inquistor.
If a Templar is misbehaving and will not listen to you, it is up to you to excommunicate them and hire new templars, strip them of their ranks, you are their boss after all.
Acolytes exist to be your eyes and ears in the City of Vanderlin. They have the most direct contact with the citizenry. Their role is to demonstrate the holy powers given by their gods to the populace, whether that be a Malumite creating expertly crafted weapons or a dendorite assisting the hunters.
If a citizen displays exceptional devotion, you are well within your rights to make them an acolyte! Reward them for their grace!
Gravtenders are a strange bunch, they are devout necralytes who exist to dig graves and bury those who are not worthy of revival, or those who cannot be revived. You should be tasking your churclings or acolytes to assist with them in body retrieval, after all an unburied body that has not received its last rites is an affront to Necra.
Churchlings are essentially the servants of your Church, they are orphans or otherwise younglings who have been given over to the care of the Church, protect them, ensure they stay safe and help them learn more about the gods of the Ten.
Put them to work in the kitchens, as cleaners or in the fields, they are there to assist you after all.
Soilsons are not officially church members, however they are located at least on Vanderlin in direct proximity to the Church. You should be tasking your templars to help protect them, and you should be collecting tithes of food from them to ensure the needy do not stay hungry.
In your eyes, the Inquisition are heretics. They were sent by the Church of Pysdon to assist you and the Monarch of Vanderlin in hunting out heretics. If they are openly preaching pysdonic heresy, then you are well within your rights to chase them out.
You should see them as a bunch of useful villens, they can help you greatly, but they can also undermine your power, and the power of the Ten as a whole.
WRONG!
There are many ways you can become an antagonistic priest that is not just Church V Crown. You could launch an Inquistion of your own, purging the town of heretics and burning them at the stake.
Or you could preach the more millitant sides of the Ten, ensuring that all conflicts are handled with Trial by Combat under Ravox for example.
You could also just be corrupt, there are many ideas and thoughts that have emerged out of Medieval Priests being corrupt, such as Simony! You could sell the positions within your Church for money and treasure, however, if Astrata or some of the more devout members of the Church were to find out, that would be a horrific mistake, so don't make it obvious!
Remember though, you should not be acting overly heretical as a Priest, engaging in Heresies that could be easily forgiven, or seen as character mistakes. Do not embody the virtues(sins) of the Four.
There are loads of things you can get up to as a priest!
You could demand tithes, hold confession with the King, anything you set your mind to. As Priest, you are given the utmost freedom to do whatever you would like with your religion WITHIN THE LORE. You can hold sermons, write religious texts, hire new acolytes, you have the powers and tools to promote, demote and announce to the masses.
The most important thing as a Priest is to be creative, you're restricted otherwise and can just end up being a revival bot who stands at the altar all day healing people.
