"You're an elite member of the Garrison, awarded with knighthood for your prowess and loyalty. Be a stalwart guardian for the royal family, and serve them until your dying breath."
As a royal guard, you are a knight of the kingdom. Your duties are simple. Protect the royal family. When you spawn in, walk yourself over to the throne room, and stay by the side of the sovereign. As the sovereign's credibility most often rests upon their men beneath them, you are one of their most important ones and your capacity to do your job will often determine their fate.
If we had to give more of an image of what the Royal Guard, then I heavily suggest to look upon Game of Throne's white cloaks.
As the last line between the Sovereign and their enemies, you are extremely important to their safety.
It's recommended to be extremely vigilant, as anyone outside of the keep may be an enemy, due to jealousy and contempt for the sovereign.
Almost all of the time, you will spend your round waiting by the sovereign's side in the keep, as he allows peasants to come in and plead their complaints and cases. During this, it is your duty to stand by the uppermost pillars, next to the person addressing the sovereign, both for security and to display his military might.
This is the most common way to do your job and likely the most valued one by a sovereign as you directly reinforce their position as a monarch (show the military might of the king) while being ready to strike down anyone who dare disrespect the King. Do not neglect that.
When the Liege lack any servants, they'll refers themselves to their most loyal person who aren't needed politicaly wise. This person often ends up being you or your comrade. Be sure to fullfil their wishes which could range from simply fetching them an item to protecting another member of the royal familly as they leave the keep.
It is important to note that while you have to obey the king and enforce their orders, you are not a servant. Leave these menial tasks to them.
Aside from that terrible pun, when the Watchman inevitably fails to actually do their job and lets in folks who shan't be in the keep, it rests upon you to clear them out You'll have to patrol the keep and make sure no strangers with ill intent are present.
This is often overlooked which lead to the Keep being flooded with the first beggar who goes through the gate, but as it is the lord's personal domain and housing you MUST ensure it is not breached.
